Parkspan 1.0.0-rc3 — Privacy and download disclosures
Version code 12 is available as a direct APK and was submitted to Google Play on October 15, 2026. The review was restarted to include this release and the updated listing. Submission is not approval; check the download page for channel availability.
- Added a location explanation and explicit choice before first use, including for previously granted Android permissions.
- Added Settings > Location privacy to withdraw the app's location-use choice and clear the current fix; clearing personal data resets the choice too.
- Show the selected areas' calculated resource allowance before map downloads, with carrier-cost and unknown-transfer-size limitations.
- Updated bundled policies and license notices while preserving the package identity, signer, database and backup formats.
Ten offline emulator disclosure, map and storage tests passed. The signed production APK installed and cold-started on a fresh offline API 36 emulator. Physical-device, Play-delivered and 16 KB runtime checks and cross-package backup restoration remain unverified; static native/ZIP alignment checks passed.
Parkspan 1.0.0-rc2 — Google Play submission
Version code 11 was submitted to Google Play on October 12, 2026. It was superseded by the version code 12 submission on October 15. Check the download page for current review and download-channel status.
- Updated support, park-correction and diagnostic email destinations to martin@deloran.us, the monitored Deloran LLC support address.
- Added current online privacy-policy and terms links while keeping the policies readable offline.
- Prepared the production package com.parkspan.app with a separate signing identity. It installs separately from the legacy beta; data and maps do not transfer automatically.
- Retained existing park discovery, trips, pass references, selected-area offline maps and encrypted-backup features without changing the database or encryption formats.
Local release builds, lint, signature checks and static 16 KB alignment checks passed. Play-delivered runtime, physical-device checks and cross-package backup restoration remain unverified. Older beta test results do not establish these outcomes for the new installation.
Parkspan 0.6.1 — Clearer maps and smoother browsing
- Open offline maps from park details: Access downloaded maps directly, choose between saved areas and manage existing downloads.
- Live location across maps: Explore, trip and offline maps show your position and estimated accuracy. “Locate me” recenters and follows your movement; panning stops following.
- Clear offline coverage: See the downloaded area’s boundary and guidance when your position falls outside it. Easily return to the saved area or switch online.
- Park thumbnails throughout: Consistent landscape images appear in park lists, saved and visited places, trips and downloaded-area cards.
- Smoother map/list switching: Improved transitions retain your map position and list scroll while reducing partially rendered content.
- Quiet author Easter egg: Seven taps on Martin Miles’s name still reveal his photograph, without a ripple or pressed effect.
- Delete all offline maps: A separate Settings action removes downloaded maps while preserving your places, trips, passes and preferences.
- Additional image coverage: Added four verified historical aerial previews.
This historical beta update preserves 0.6 beta data and downloaded maps when the package and signer match. That does not describe migration to the separate 1.0 production package. Some Other/territory locations still use an explicit image fallback. Location was tested using simulated movement; physical-device GPS field testing remains outstanding.

- Trip planning: Create trips with dates, park stops, party details and private notes. See your itinerary on a numbered map.
- Offline maps: Download areas around parks and trip stops, with light and dark maps, download progress and pause/resume controls.
- Personalized pass coverage: Check how your passes apply to a planned visit, accounting for validity, eligibility, party and vehicle requirements.
- Pass comparison: Compare eligible passes against available entrance fees, with cost breakdowns and estimated savings.
- Before-you-go information: Find published reservation requirements, seasonal restrictions and facilities, with official source links.
- Visitor access points: Choose documented entrances and visitor centers for planning and map downloads.
- Facility filters: Narrow park results using available facility and accessibility information.
- Encrypted backups: Back up and restore places, visits, trips, preferences and passes—including private pass photos—with merge or replace options.
- Catalog update support: Import verified park-data updates or connect to an HTTPS publisher.
Planning information reflects dated sources, and some fees or conditions remain unavailable. Offline downloads cover selected areas and do not provide turn-by-turn navigation. Automatic catalog delivery requires a configured publisher.

The Parkspan 0.5 series
Introduced the Parkspan display name, distinct geographic layers and marker styling, clearer benefit colors, illustrated pass references, exact-date expiry, safer private-image deletion and improved park galleries.
Subsequent refinements improved the layer picker, larger-text presentation and proportional image cropping.
Still worth knowing
Coverage varies by destination. Offline areas do not guarantee a whole park or an inter-stop route. The app does not provide live closure alerts, bookings, pass issuance, cloud synchronization or turn-by-turn directions. All implemented features remain free.
